Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) he is An annual national public awareness campaign designed to help open Canadians’ eyes to the reality of mental illness. MIAW takes place in October 2 8with Algonquin College programming in October 36. theme 2022 She is, “There is no health without mental health.”

Monday October 3

Lunchtime Yoga (12:05 PM – 12:50 PM): Taking care of your mental and physical health is essential during this time. To help relieve some stress and anxiety, join this free yoga session. Open to students and staff. Attend virtual or at the Spiritual Center (Room E211, 2nd Floor, Student Council).

Walking in the Mood AC (1:00 PM – 2:30 PM): yOwen Counseling services For a moody picnic, rain or sunny! Mood Walks are a great opportunity to explore your community, meet new friends, and go on your way to better health.

Tuesday 4 October

AC Purple Couch (10:30 AM – 12:00 PM): Visit Nawapon (1st Floor, Student Commons) for a seat on the AC Purple Couch and talk what’s on your mind. Talk to the person next to you, trained student leaders, or a mental health professional.

Sisters in Soul (10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.): Attend a lecture by Grandma Isabel Miyawasegi from the Serpent River First Nation in Nawapon (1st Floor, Building C)! The problem of human trafficking involving indigenous women and girls will be discussed.

Wednesday October 5

Wellness Wednesday (10:00 am – 11:00 am): Stop by the Bio Wall on the first floor of the ACCE Building for a wellness activity with counseling services!

Craft and Chat – Perth Campus (11:00 AM – 12:00 PM): Perth students, visit Craft & Chat to meet new people, engage in fun art activities, and even play games like Pictionary with your fellow students. You can come in person (Room 103) or via Zoom!

Health and Resilience 101 (1:00 pm – 2:00 pm): Join Health Services virtually to learn how to build the mental resilience and physical fortitude needed to make this semester a success!

360 Degree Mental Health – Adopt a Plant (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM): Did you know that having a plant in your living space can boost your mood, improve air quality, and reduce stress, all while also making your space more comfortable and inviting? Drop by the AC Hub (2nd floor, Student Commons) to “adopt” your new favorite plant!

Thursday October 6

World Mental Health Day Conference (8:00 am – 4:30 pm): This interactive virtual event will include exciting activities, prizes, and dynamic expert speakers on topics such as resilience, substance abuse, exercise, stress management, burnout, inner stigma, and more!

Welcome to Health Services (11:30 AM – 12:30 PM): Learn about health services in this virtual event! You’ll learn how to access their services, what they offer, what coverage they accept, and even how to get health advice!
