Tuesday 27 September
The Riverside Writers – Write and Tell Your Story meet is scheduled from 3-4 p.m. at the Riverside Apartments. Everyone’s life has a story to tell. Ann McGeehan Woodard leads writing and/or storytelling. Participants can share their stories in this relaxed atmosphere. There is no charge for attendance. Contact Creative 360 if you are interested in attending.
The harvest celebration is set from 6 to 7 p.m. at Phoenix Community Farm at Windover High School. There will be activities for all ages, pig barbecues for fundraising and from farm to table dinner.
Spider Sniffing is set for 8:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the Chippewa Nature Center. Join the interpretive naturalist at Lanigan Pavilion at the end of Homestead Trail for a dive into the world of spiders. The group would use flashlights hung at the tips of their noses to “sniff out” the eight-legged friends. CNC has a limited supply of light bulbs for loan. This event is free.
Wednesday 28th September
A lunch and learn session is set for 12 noon at the 50+ Greater Midland Community Center. This lesson will focus on the benefits of hydrotherapy, presented by Abbi Brady, PT, DPT. Lunch will be served for the elderly in Istiklal Village. This event is free for seniors. Those interested in attending are asked to send an RSVP to Amanda, 989-832-7937 ext. 2270 or aewald@gicturesmidland.org at least one week prior to the event.
The VR experience is set up from 2-4 p.m. at the Coleman District Library. Do you want to actually swim with dolphins in the ocean? Maybe cut some tunes like the Jedi Musical? Or play virtual golf with your friends? Guests can experience virtual reality with the library’s new VR Quest2 headset. Assistance and guidance will be provided for initiating guests. This free event is for ages 13 and up. Teens must have a waiver on file from their legal guardian before they can participate. Floats with Goats is set for 5:30-7 p.m. at the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library. Celebrity Scooters from Midland will host a Faego Floating Social Event with a petting zoo, yard games and family crafts. No registration required. Animal feed cones will be available to purchase for $1, and carrots will be available for $3 – cash only.
Sprouts & STEMs: The Garden of Sustainable Art is set at 7pm at Creative 360. The accessible and inclusive teaching garden at Creative 360’s Bayliss location is the perfect place to learn about art, environmental responsibility, and the natural sciences. Please register in advance by contacting Creative 360 to let them know how many people are coming. This event is free.

The Pendulum Lounge is open from 4:30-8pm at the Midland Center for the Arts. Kimberly Majoran will provide live music. Guests can enjoy handcrafted cocktails, small plates and mouth-watering shows. Tickets are not required to attend the Pendulum Lounge, as seats are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
Yoga is set at 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Dahlia Hill. Come early to see the flowers, then settle in for an all-level yoga practice led by Sarah Nelson. No experience necessary. Participants are asked to bring their own mats if they have one. This event depends on the weather. Pricing is based on a donation ($5 minimum suggested) or use a study pass. Friday 30 September
The AAUW Autumn Book Sale is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Midland Mall. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Book lovers can browse hardcovers, paperbacks, fantasy and nonfiction, children’s books, and more. Most books are priced from $1 to $2, with a small selection priced individually.
Next week: Brownies and Bookmarks are set for 10 a.m. at the Safe and Sound Advocacy Center. Visit the mall for a brownie, bookmark and tour the dealership. It’s the perfect time to answer questions about keeping children safe. This event is free.

The Fall Walk is set for 5-8 p.m. at Dow Gardens. Enjoy the evening walk, through the luminous forest, at the height of the autumn colour. This event includes live music and seasonal refreshments (available for purchase at the café). Included with the admission or purchase of the Annual Admission Card.
The Broadway series is scheduled to run from 7-9 p.m. at Creative 360. Creative 360 combines Broadway musicals and wine for a “balanced evening of seamless live entertainment with a spicy finishing touch.” Performers from the Great Lakes Bay region will take audiences by tasting four Broadway shows while enjoying a selection of wines. Guests can bring their own drinks. The cost is $20 prepaid and $25 at the door.

Falling into Politics: Chile, Ratatouille and Candidates Set 4-6 p.m. Learn more about the candidates in Midland from the US Congress all the way to the county commissioner. Guests can pick up prints, signs, good food, good friends and visiting candidates. The Midland Democratic Party will be in the booth on Manor Street.

Join disabled artists Stephanie Heat and Petra Coopers for a showcase of poetry, imagination, movement and more for an evening that invites and celebrates creative expression. Saturday October 8
The flea market and craft show is set for Halloween from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 132 Ashman Circle in Midland. There will be twenty handicraft vendors and a food cart. Visitors can search the stalls for unique Halloween crafts and vintage flea market items for sale. The coffee will be available for purchase through the Stranded Yarn Coffee Shop. Parking in front of the building. There is an additional car park located at the rear of the building.
The first writing workshop with Sephanie Heit and Petra Kuppers is set from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Creative 360’s Downtown Midland space. In this generative workshop, participants will use sensory experiences as starting points for writing in poetry, fiction or realism. The group will participate in writing experiences for the majority of the session with the remaining time used for optional participation. Suggest a donation of $15.
The Sensual Forest Experience with Stephanie Heat and Petra Coopers is set from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Chippewa Nature Center. The group will chime in with our brains using breathing and movement; Explore the surroundings with the menu of texture, sound, memory, smell, language, and gesture; Collaborate as a group to create support and develop fun and interest in themselves and the space around them. Suggest a donation of $15.
Midland County’s Fall 2022 treasure hunt is set at 4:15-9:30 p.m. and participants will gather in the old farmer’s market area next to Tridge. From there, they’ll solve a series of Star Trek-themed puzzles that will take them across the region, ending at the final destination where everyone will enjoy a meal together. The Midland Symphony Orchestra’s first concert, “Symphonic Dances: Rebirth, Renewal, and the Story of the West Side” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Midland Center for the Arts. The concert will feature Dai Wei, who drew inspiration from the Renaissance cycles when composing the samsarik dance. The evening is complete with lush rhythmic vibrancy and changing tones Rachmaninoff Symphony Dances An anthology of Bernstein’s famous music. Beijing is scheduled to perform acrobatics featuring the Shanghai Circus at 7 p.m. at the Midland Center for the Arts. Accompanied by live musicians on traditional Chinese instruments, in a time-honored tradition that blends Chinese music and stunning acrobatic feats, Beijing acrobats also incorporate high-tech special effects, creating a lively performance with a festive festival of Chinese Carnival. Evil Dead the Musical is set for 8-10:30 p.m. in Stratford Woods Park. The Six Eleven Theater Company will take visitors deep into Stratford Woods Park to a cabin in the woods. This will be a three-week performing event with the Evil Dead musical, food trucks, a mini scare walk, costume contests and more. Tickets are available at www.sixeleventheater.org/evildead. Evil Dead the Musical will run concurrently on October 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29.
Saturday 15 October
The 42nd annual ski swap is set from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Greater Midland Community Center, hosted by the Snow Snake Mountain Ski Patrol. Families will have the opportunity to purchase new and used ski and snowboard equipment of all sizes at reasonable prices. Equipment provided includes skis, snowboards, snowboards, XC gear, helmets and winter clothing. Due to construction activities in the community center, the main car park has been closed; Parking is available in the car parks off Nelson, East Collins and George Streets.
The Midland Fire Department’s annual open house is set from 1-4 p.m. at the headquarters station on Haley Street. Guests are welcome to come and meet the firefighters, tour the station, check equipment and learn about fire safety.
